Rival Schools Announce United By Fate Deluxe Edition 20th Anniversary Reissue of Legendary Debut LP

Rival Schools have teamed with Run For Cover Records for a 20th anniversary deluxe reissue of their legendary debut full-length, United By Fate. With the standard edition/digital due out October 28th and the deluxe/collectors editions in-stores in time for RSD Black Friday on November 25th, this re-release of United By Fate offers a chance to rediscover one of the most impressive and influential post-hardcore albums of all time.

United By Fate Deluxe Edition provides something for both longtime fans and those looking to discover this important album for the first time. In addition to the original 13 songs (all remastered for vinyl) the release includes every official United By Fate b-side, all of the Rival Schools tracks from their split with Onelinedrawing (never before released on vinyl), and the new take on "Holding Sand." The 23 total songs sound just as vibrant and essential today as they did over 20 years ago when they first came out. And for the ultimate fans, the collectors edition of the reissue is housed in a hard-cover linen case with stamped lettering, holding a hardcover sixty-four page book that includes handwritten lyrics and never-before-seen photos from the band’s personal archives.

Featuring a lineup of NYHC greats--guitarist/vocalist Walter Schreifels (Gorilla Biscuits, Youth of Today Quicksand), drummer Sammy Siegler (Youth of Today, Judge, CIV), bassist Cache Tolman (Iceburn, Institute) and Ian Love (Burn, Atlantic/Pacific)--Rival Schools' 2001 debut is a post-hardcore masterpiece that managed to seamlessly blend the sheer kinetic energy of aggressive music with deeply melodic rock songwriting. Not only is the album packed with untouchably catchy and innovative songs, it also solidified Schreifels legacy as a trailblazer and created a blueprint that allowed many younger musicians in hardcore to feel comfortable with allowing themselves to grow and change creatively.

To mark the announcement Rival Schools have shared a new version of United By Fate standout, "Holding Sand." Recorded by Schreifels, the acoustic take strips off the distortion and churning bass of the original to reveal the expert song-craft that has always been at the core of the musician's storied career.

Watch Myself In The Way video ft. Brendan Yates of Turnstile

Today, Virginia band Turnover announces their fifth full-length album Myself in the Way due November 4th. Along with the album's announcement, Turnover shares the title track "Myself in the Way" featuring vocals from Brendan Yates of Turnstile, which arrives with the digitally-altered, montage-style visuals of the band performing and exploring nature spliced together with artwork from bassist Danny Dempsey.

Myself in the Way was born out of Turnover's desire to continue evolving their sound, making each body of work more exploratory than the last, but it's also a byproduct of the band's growth both as individuals and collectively. Armed with a flurry of new ways for the band to express themselves creatively, they challenged themselves to make their most ambitious body of work to date. Co-produced by frontman Austin Getz alongside frequent collaborator Will Yip, Myself In The Way sounds more expansive than anything they've done, intently honing in on sound design this time around, and yet it's wholeheartedly more intimate and self-reliant on their vision and execution.Turnover is also announcing a trio of headlining shows to take place this November and December to celebrate the release of Myself in the Way. The band will play Roadrunner in Boston, Brooklyn Steel in New York City and The Wiltern in Los Angeles. Tickets will be available for pre-sale beginning today at 10AM ET and will go on sale to the general public this Friday, July 29th at 12pm ET here.

Field Medic announces new album & releases video for "i had a dream that you died"

Pre-order "grow your hair long if you're wanting to see something that you can change" out 10/14

Field Medic, the long-running project of Los Angeles-based musician Kevin Patrick Sullivan, announces a new album today, titled grow your hair long if you're wanting to see something that you can change. Out October 14 via RFC, Field Medic’s fifth full-length sees him completely reinventing his recording approach. The result is an ambitious, fully-formed, and emotionally resonant collection of tracks: a triumphant picture of an artist diving deep into himself and coming out stronger than ever, both as a songwriter and as a person.

With the album announcement comes a new single and video, “i had a dream that you died”. “I had a dream that you died, somehow made it about me,” Sullivan sings, continuing, “so I keep fighting each day against this maelstrom / I feel like a chia pet, the way my hair looks dumb and my heart is made of stone.”

Watch the video for "i had a dream that you died":

grow your hair long contains some of Field Medic’s most immaculately arranged and ambitious recordings yet, like album opener “always emptiness”, the first track Sullivan brought into the studio. It also includes four self-recorded and self-produced tracks, some of which stemmed from his post-studio, late-night moments of clarity, like “i had a dream that you died”. Within these delicate and lovingly made songs, there’s an underlying and tangible hope someone finds a way out of their own struggles.

”Music is definitely a vessel for some form of healing,” says Sullivan. “Sometimes the best way to get out of your own head is to just get to work. Making this album helped me find my happiness again.

Beginning October 2022, Field Medic embarks on a headlining fall tour through the US and Canada, with support from Sadurn, Derek Ted, and Juliet Sunflower. For the first time, he’ll be accompanied by a band in addition to his trusty boombox. Find a full list of tour dates below; buy tickets here.

Young Guv "GUV IV" out today, 'GUV III & IV" 2xLP available now

Young Guv (aka songwriter Ben Cook) has released his new album GUV IV. Out today via RFC, the album comes hot on the heels of Young Guv's previous full-length, GUV III, which just came out in March. The ever-prolific musician has amassed an impressive and wide-reaching catalog over the years and GUV III and GUV IV are the perfect place for new listeners to jump aboard.

Where GUV III captured Cook's most instantly accessible guitar pop songwriting, GUV IV represents the most sonically adventurous side of Young Guv. The record (which has drawn early attention from the likes of Stereogum, NPR, BrooklynVegan, Uproxx, Paste Magazine, and many more) effortlessly moves between hazy Madchester-inspired rave ups, twangy California jangle, and even homemade sophisti-pop, with Cook's knack for melody always leading the way.

Both 2022 LP releases from Young Guv have been packaged together in a 2xLP titled "GUV III & IV" featuring both full albums plus a bonus track "She Sparkles Everywhere". "GUV III & IV" vinyl is officially out July 15th, but copies are shipping from our store now.

Camp Cope release first ever music video for Running With The Hurricane ahead of their US upcoming tour

Melbourne trio Camp Cope are releasing their first-ever music video today for the title track of their celebrated new album Running with the Hurricane, out now on Run For Cover Records.

The video was directed by James J. Robinson (who has previously teamed up with Camp Cope lead singer Georgia Maq for an epic photo shoot) and Rachael Morrow. Shot in Australia on Wurundjeri land, Camp Cope say of the video, "It's like a moment in time for us as a band. We were getting ready to fly out to the US for our first international tour since the pandemic started. Kelly is six months pregnant in it and keeps rocking out. Jenny, who has started playing guitar live with us graciously said yes to being in it. We really wanted to capture the energy of the song, and that sometimes the only way out is up. And who doesn't like to get dressed up and do funny things with leaf blowers all day?"
