Horse Jumper of Love announce new mini-album 'Heartbreak Rules' out 05/19

In 2022 Horse Jumper of Love released their third full-length, Natural Part, drawing acclaim from longtime fans and the likes of Pitchfork, Stereogum, The FADER, Paste, BrooklynVegan, FLOOD, and many more. Now, less than a year later, the band are back with an unexpected new release, Heartbreak Rules.

The upcoming mini-album collects eight completely new songs, two reimagined tracks from Natural Part, and a cover of The Smashing Pumpkins' "Luna," and marks a sonic shift for Horse Jumper of Love. Lead single and title track introduces listeners to the intimate recordings, sparse arrangements, and beautifully gentle songwriting that's found on Heartbreak Rules. Vocalist/guitarist Dimitri Giannopoulos discussed the new single, saying: "When you pour a drink from one cup to another sometimes you spill a bunch on the table and you have less in the new cup. I was thinking about the heart being like that in transitional times of life. You lose something from your past self. I was feeling a little heartbroken for the past and missing how things used to be."

Heartbreak Rules was written and recorded solely by Giannopoulos, but it is undeniably a Horse Jumper of Love release. “When I started writing, I didn’t really know what it would be,” he explains. “I went into it with no intentions.” Recorded with a bare bones setup in the Catskills with longtime band collaborator, Bradford Kreeger, the mini-album is full of hushed and unvarnished recordings that allow Giannopolous' voice and lyrics to shine. “As I play music more, I just want to play quieter,” he says. “We’re rehearsing these songs as a full band now and we’re not blasting our amps like we used to–it feels really good. I think it has to do with our confidence level at this point. I used to play loud because I wasn’t confident in my vocal delivery or my lyrics, and now I want to showcase those things.”

Horse Jumper of Love will be hitting the road again in May, heading out on a U.S. run with LSD and the Search For God and Panchiko. See full itinerary below.
