Portrayal of Guilt announce "Devil Music" alongside 15 minute orchestral short film

Preorder Devil Music | Portrayal of Guilt eschew predictability. While the Austin, Texan outfit have released material at a rapid clip since their formation only six years ago, it has been near-impossible to predict what each ensuing release might sound like. The only window into what to expect has been those releases’ titles, wallowing in themes of affliction, isolation, and just plain underworld allusion. Naturally, this leads to…Devil Music.

Citing a wide spectrum of influences, Devil Music, tracked in two different sessions in early 2022, is an experimental approach to writing heavy music. It offers five new original songs on Side A; and then a reimagining of those same five songs on Side B, replacing much of the traditional guitars and bass setup with an orchestral string section, acoustic bass, and brass.

Today they’ve shared the Devil Music’s orchestral Side B in its entirety, paired with a striking short film directed by Emmanuella Zachariou. She tells, “When I first heard the B-Side of Devil Music, I was extremely impressed by the cinematic nature of the music. As a filmmaker and artist who started working in this industry through being an avid lover of music, especially heavier and darker sounds, it has always been a deep personal goal of mine to create more projects that not only highlight the extremely intricate nature of such compositions, but to really try to bring in a true cinematic atmosphere to help visualize them.

Devil Music
cements Portrayal of Guilt as a band of their own ilk, playing by no one’s rules but their own, which even here they bend to their will. The album sees its digital release April 20 and will be available on physical formats April 21. There will also be an accompanying Devil Music short film DVD, sold separately, which includes the short film and additional video content.

Wicca Phase Springs Eternal announces new LP "Wicca Phase Springs Eternal" out 6/2

Wicca Phase Springs Eternal has returned with the announcement of his self-titled new full-length, due out June 2nd from Run For Cover Records. For over a decade the Pennsylvania-based singer, songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist, Adam McIlwee, has been using the Wicca Phase Springs Eternal moniker to create a vast catalog that's as unpredictable as it is impressive, and now the name is also the title of his latest full-length: Wicca Phase Springs Eternal offers the musician’s most finely honed and welcoming songs to date, but it’s more than just a self-titled album–it’s a portal, an entryway into an entire world.

Preorder | Stream | "Moving Without Movement" video

To mark the announcement, McIlwee has shared the album's sweeping first single, "Moving Without Movement" and it's accompanying video. The track finds Wicca Phase Springs Eternal delving into cinematic synth pop, with a shimmering bass line and longing melodies that would sound right at home being performed at The Roadhouse on an episode of Twin Peaks. It's the perfect introduction to the deeply unique universe that Wicca Phase Springs Eternal offers.

Wicca Phase Springs Eternal has been a fittingly enigmatic umbrella for McIlwee's work, but with his self-titled album he extends a guiding hand through the mists to welcome new listeners and longtime fans alike. Working closely with Darcy Baylis and Ben Greenberg, McIlwee focused on going deeper than ever into the world-building aspect of WPSE, while also expanding his sound in new directions. Drawing on elements of house, trance, new wave, and more, Wicca Phase Springs Eternal is bursting with mood and mystery, conjuring detailed imagery and cutting emotion in equal measure. It's an album that sums up what McIlwee does best: capturing both the romanticism and inscrutability of life’s biggest feelings. “I probably say the word ‘mystery’ a hundred times on this record,” he explains. “That’s what I’m trying to bottle up–this idea of something that’s hard to know, but enticing." When Wicca Phase Springs Eternal ends, you find yourself compelled to play it again–to enter the portal and once more find out where it leads.

Wicca Phase Springs Eternal has also announced two intimate album preview shows in Los Angeles and Brooklyn. See itinerary below.

Upcoming Shows:
04/01 Los Angeles, CA @ TBA
04/15 Brooklyn, NY @ The Mona Liza

Since forming in 2017, LANNDS have been steadily releasing EPs and always pushing their sound in new directions. Now Music For The Future fulfills the promise of their earlier work, pushing the sound to new heights. Superheaven Announce Jar (10 Year Anniversary Edition)

This year marks the tenth anniversary of Superheaven releasing their debut album, Jar. To celebrate, the band have announced a new reissue of the record, due out April 28th from Run For Cover Records. With updated artwork and two bonus tracks—“Siblings,” a Jar-era one-off single and “Lucky,” a vinyl-exclusive b-side from the LP sessions—the reissue is an essential showcase of one of the most important releases in Run For Cover's classic-packed catalog.

Listen to Jar | Preorder Jar (10 Year Anniversary Edition):

Released in 2013, Jar was a highly anticipated breakthrough album from the eastern-Pennsylvania four piece. Superheaven, along with contemporaries like Balance and Composure, Basement, and Title Fight, led the way with a new wave of heavy-yet-tuneful rock coming out of the punk scene. Working with producer Will Yip at Studio 4 in Conshohocken, PA, the songs showcase a talent for writing songs that are equal parts towering guitars and emotionally charged hooks--all mixed with the size and clarity of major label grunge breakthrough records like Nirvana’s Nevermind or Failure’s Fantastic Planet.

Will Yip discussed his relationship with Jar, saying:
"Jar will always be one of the most important records of my life. When someone asks me about my favorite records I’ve ever produced, Jar is always in that list. From the second we tracked demos for this record, I knew Jar was going to be a classic. The band was so ahead of the curve with their songwriting, their sonic identity, and their realness. Everything they’ve ever done was 100% them. The band pushed me on a sonic level and I couldn’t be more grateful, it really help me with making a mental blue print on how to build a perfect feeling rock record. Jar forever."

Superheaven will also be performing the album in full at a run of Jar anniversary shows in the spring. See full itinerary below.

waveform* announce new album, "Antarctica" due out 5/12, new song & pre-order, tour w/ Runnner

waveform*
have announced their new album, Antarctica, due out May 12th via Run For Cover Records. Antarctica is the Connecticut-based duo's most accomplished work to date, showcasing a dynamic blend of shoegaze sprawl, fuzzed-out hooks, and bedroom pop intimacy wrapped around a core of deeply satisfying songwriting.

Listen to "Lonely" via YouTube | Stream "Lonely" everywhere | Preorder Antarctica

To celebrate the album's announcement, waveform* have shared its first single, "Lonely." The song opens Antarctica with dreamy keyboards and acoustic guitars, slowly unfurling a gentle melody that instantly gets stuck in your head. It's a perfect introduction to the way waveform*'s manage to create atmosphere to spare without ever sacrificing song-craft.

Since 2018 waveform* have been earning a cult following with an already impressive catalog of releases, and now Antarctica offers something for longtime fans and new listeners alike. Made up of songwriters Jarett Denner and Dan Poppa, the band have steadily expanded and honed their sound, with each homemade album building on the potential of the last. Antarctica finds the duo fully collaborating for the first time, blurring the line between the two's strengths to make songs that truly feel like waveform* coming into their own sonic identity. The songs pivot on a dime between hushed indie folk and towering walls of guitar, as Poppa and Denner's lyrics explore solitude and isolation, evoking vast empty expanses but also moments of diary-like specificity. The result is an album that unfolds with an impressive mix of intimacy and mood, drawing you in with its lush arrangements and instant catchiness, but revealing more secrets with every listen.
